The Vital Acts: Podcast by Izyaan Burney
Hi, I’m Izyaan
I’ve always been drawn to the act of performance, the shifting moods, the quiet tension, the emotional ignition. There’s something powerful in how a story unfolds, how the mind responds, and how, sometimes, healing begins with a single line spoken out loud. As a playwright fascinated by the human body and mind, I’ve come to see that our responses fear, joy, grief, even courage are not just emotional, but biological. This podcast is where those two worlds meet. I explore how drama helps us express, react, and sometimes heal, not just through the stories we tell, but through the systems within us that shape them.

This season on The Vital Acts, we're digging into medical orientalism, the idea that medicine has never been neutral about who it's describing. It's the pattern where conditions produced by inequality, poverty, and exclusion get re-described as the essence, the culture, or the nature of the people living in them, dressed up in the borrowed authority of clinical language. But we’re excited for you to join us again. This season, we're opening into deeper, lesser-known topics, like never before, including from my own research! We’re excited to do that with you.
